This is not the first time Elland Road has played host to the Three Lions.
In 2002 Sven Goran Eriksson’s team were defeated 2-1 by Italy at Elland Road, with Leeds’ Robbie Fowler scoring the goal for the hosts. The starting line up also included Leeds’ Nigel Martyn and Danny Mills. England would lose the game thanks to a 90th minute penalty from Roma’s Vincenzo Montella.
England also hosted Sweden in 1995 in the Umbro Cup at Elland Road. The England team featuring Paul Gascoigne, John Barnes and Alan Shearer were heading for a 3-1 defeat before goals from David Platt and Darren Anderton in the 89th and 90th minutes ensured the crowd of 32,000 people witnessed a 3-3 goal fest.
