Former Leeds United player gets sent off for repeating his own name

Former Leeds United player Sanchez Watt was sent off for repeating his own name to the referee during the National League North fixture between Hemel Hempstead and East Thurrock.

Referee, Dean Hulme, sent Watt off for dissent after asking the former Leeds United player to tell him his name after talking to him.

Having replied with “Watt, Watt”, Hulme mistakenly thought he was saying “What? What?” so decided to send him off for dissent.

With Watt left in disbelief at the decision to show him a red card, it was up to Hemel Hempstead captain, Jordan Parkes, to explain to the referee that Sanchez’s second name, was indeed Watt.

It certainly offers a strong case that players from this level should have names on the back of their shirts to avoid any embarrassment like this in future.

Thankfully the game carried on 11 v 11 and both Parkes and Watt were on the scoresheet in a 2-0 win.
